Our onsite restaurant Jambels offers a mix of Caribbean and Jamaican flavour.

Food in San Pedro tells the story of Ambergris Caye itself. This small island community has grown from a fishing village into a destination that draws visitors from around the world, and the restaurants here reflect that blend of local roots and cosmopolitan influences. Whether you’re after humble street food or sit-down dining, the best restaurants in San Pedro offer genuine flavors rather than tourist shortcuts.

The island’s location at the edge of the world’s second-largest barrier reef means seafood dominates menus, but there’s depth here beyond just fish. You’ll find Creole traditions alive in family-run establishments, Maya heritage in certain dishes, and Caribbean techniques woven through kitchens large and small. Many restaurant owners have been feeding locals and visitors for decades, which tells you something about consistency and care.

Restaurants to try during your SunBreeze Stay

Apart from Jambel’s at SunBreeze Suites, San Pedro has a solid dining scene worth exploring during your stay. Here are some of the restaurants worth making time for.

Blue Water Grill sits right on the beach and is one of the most reliably good options in town, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. On Tuesday and Friday evenings they run a sushi menu alongside their regular dinner specials — a good option if you are after something a little different.

El Fogon is where locals go for traditional Belizean cooking. Many of the dishes are prepared over an open wood fire in a traditional hearth, which comes through in the flavour. It is a little off the main drag but worth finding. Open for lunch and dinner, closed Sundays.

Elvi’s Kitchen has been on the island longer than any other restaurant and still serves some of the best traditional Belizean food in San Pedro. Open for lunch and dinner, closed Sundays.

Caliente is a relaxed lagoon-side spot serving Mexican and Belizean dishes. Family friendly and well known for Friday night margarita prices. Open for lunch and dinner, closed Mondays.

Caramba runs a buffet of Mexican and Belizean dishes and is a good choice for a casual, filling meal. Open for lunch and dinner, closed Wednesdays.

Waraguma on Back Street is a local favourite for pupusas and seafood burritos. Straightforward, good value and open every day for lunch and dinner.

Maxie’s Restaurant and Lounge is a newer addition on Back Street serving breakfast, lunch and dinner from 9:30am. Open until 10pm Sunday through Thursday and midnight on weekends.

Purple Pelican is a fine dining spot built on the lagoon, worth booking for an evening out. Open Wednesday through Monday from 4pm, closed Tuesdays.

South of town, La Palmilla at Victoria House two miles south is the island’s most elegant dining option, open daily for all three meals. Hidden Treasure, also two miles south, offers a romantic dinner setting and can arrange complimentary transport through Guest Services — open from 5pm, closed Tuesdays. The Deck is a relaxed beachfront seafood spot 1.5 miles south, open for lunch and dinner daily.

North of town, Truck Stop one mile north is a shipping container food park and beer garden with pizza, Malaysian and South American food, a lagoon dock for sunsets and a lively atmosphere. Fun for families and open from noon, closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Aji Tapa Bar and Restaurant 2.5 miles north serves Spanish and Belizean food in an open-air jungle beach setting, open for dinner from 5pm, closed Tuesdays. Garage Bar and Grill one mile north covers seafood, steaks and Belizean and American dishes, open for dinner from 5pm, closed Mondays.
