Our Commitment to SAGA Humane Society
The mission of SAGA Humane Society is building a permanent Animal Clinic/Education center in Ambergris Caye, Belize and continue working toward a long term solution to end animal abuse, neglect and overpopulation within the community.
Through our community impact program, we will be donating monthly to the SAGA Humane Society to fund their work in the community.
How do we give back
The mission of SAGA Humane Society, a non-profit, non-governmental organization, is to prevent cruelty and replace it with kindness to all animals. They seek to achieve their goals by providing medical care and shelter to animals in need and subsidizing veterinary care to low-income families. This is accomplished through the operation of the island’s only non-profit veterinary clinic, conducting ongoing spay/neuter and vaccination campaigns, animal adoption, and public education programs. Their vision is to build a permanent animal clinic/education center in Ambergris Caye, Belize, and continue working toward a long-term solution to end animal abuse, neglect, and overpopulation.
A large and influential part of SAGA Humane Society is the extension of the shelter called Fort Dog. It is just down the road. Fort Dog houses lost unwanted, and homeless dogs and puppies who receive treatment and loving care until they are found in an adoptive family. Fort Dog, in its current state, houses up to 40 animals at any given time.
HOW YOU CAN #TRAVELKINDLY:
- Choose SAGA Humane Society as your local charity when booking Sunbreeze Suites through Kind Traveler.
- Kind Travelers are encouraged to participate in SAGA’s volunteer program alongside locals. The program consists of catering, socialization, cleaning, and organizing fundraisers.
- Fulfill items from SAGA’s wishlist. Items needed include shelter supplies, dog beds, water bowls, blankets, towels, office supplies, and medications
- Take a dog for a walk on the beach! Simply come to the Saga Humane Society and ask for a leash. They will provide you with directions to Fort Dog, a leash, and some doggy bags just in case there is an accident. You won’t believe all of the happy tails that will be there to greet you.
